British PM Boris Jhonson responds over Occupied Kashmir conflict between Pakistan and India

LONDON – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday that tensionsin occupied Kashmir are for India and Pakistan to resolve bilaterally.

Boris Johnson talked to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by telephonethis evening and a Downing Street spokesperson said the conversationstarted by Modi congratulating the Prime Minister on his appointment.

“The Prime Minister [Johsnon] and Prime Minister Modi discussed the currentsituation in Kashmir. The Prime Minister made clear that the UK views theissue of Kashmir is one for India and Pakistan to resolve bilaterally. Heunderlined the importance of resolving issues through dialogue,” said thespokesman.

The official said both the leaders agreed on the importance of the UK-Indiapartnership and the need to build on it further, particularly through tradeand economic ties and through the living bridge that links the countries.

“Prime Minister Modi said there are immense possibilities for the UK andIndia which would increase prosperity in both countries,” the spokesmanelaborated.

India revoked the special status granted to occupied Kashmir earlier thismonth by scrapping article 370 and 35A of the constitution, drawing the ireof Pakistan and Kashmiris besides political parties in India.

A day earlier, US President Donald Trump talked to both PM Imran and IndianPremier Modi to help reduce the tensions that are currently running highbetween the nuclear-armed neighbours.
