SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Seven police officers were reportedly abducted in two separate incidents in South Waziristan, according to local media reports citing police sources. The kidnappings have sparked concern in the region, prompting security forces to launch a search and rescue operation to recover the missing personnel.
The first incident occurred late Saturday night, when unidentified armed men intercepted a police patrol and abducted several officers. Hours later, a similar incident was reported from a nearby area, suggesting a coordinated effort by militant groups operating in the region.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the perpetrators, but South Waziristan has long been a hotspot for militant activity, particularly by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other insurgent groups. Police and military units have cordoned off the area and are carrying out intensive search operations, using aerial surveillance and ground forces to track the kidnappers.
Local residents have been advised to remain vigilant, and checkpoints have been set up to monitor movement in and out of the region. No group has claimed responsibility for the abductions so far.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the resurgence of militant activity in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt, with several recent attacks targeting security personnel. Authorities have vowed to bring the abducted officers home safely and continue their crackdown on extremist elements destabilizing the region.
