Lahore Process: First Afghan peace conference being held in Pakistan with prominent Afghan leaders

ISLAMABAD – The first Afghan peace conference called ‘Lahore Process’ willbe held in Bhurban Murree tomorrow hosting important figures such as AfghanHigh Peace Council chairman Karim Khalili and Uzbek leader Rashid Dostum.

Leaders of all major political parties of Afghanistan will attend themeeting. 57 delegates among 18 Afghan political parties will participate inthe talks, including Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Atta Muhammad Nur and otherimportant figures.

Afghan High Peace Council chairman Karim Khalili and Uzbek leader RashidDostum will also come to participate in the peace conference.

According to the sources, many Afghan senators and members of the Assemblywill also participate in the conference. ‘Lahore Process’ will exchangetalks about bilateral relations and future harmony. Different aspects ofAfghan security will also be reviewed in the conference.

The conference will establish a relation of trust between the futuregovernments.

The Afghan peace conference will provide an overview of the trade, healthand other sectors whereas return of Afghan refugees is also expected in theconference. Talibans exemption in ‘Lahore Process’ can’t be considered as apossibility for future.

According to the sources, this conference holds importance as it has beentaking place prior to Afghan President visit to Pakistan. President ArifAlvi will host a dinner in the honor of Afghan members whereas they willalso meet Prime Minister Imran Khan.
