In a first, NAB to probe Defence Housing Authority Islamabad scam

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) started investigationsagainst Bahria Town, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and DefenceHousing Authority (DHA) pertaining to a Rs62 billion scam regarding DHAValley and DHA Valley phase two extension.

The country’s top anti-corruption watchdog also initiated a probe againstousted prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law captain (R) Safdar andPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) PresidentAmeer Muqam in a case related to possessing assets beyond means.

NAB Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal chaired a meeting in which thesedecisions were taken.

An official press release pertaining to the meeting read, “Theadministrations of the three organisations were accused of being involvedin non-development of DHA Valley and DHA Phase-II extension causingirreparable losses to hundreds of thousands of people who had investedtheir hard earned money in these projects.”

DHA Valley project was originally meant to be for the families of martyredmilitary personnel.

Earlier, NAB had started the case on an appeal by lieutenant colonel (R)Tariq Kamal in 2010 following which the anti-graft body completedverification and authorised an inquiry into the matter in 2012.
