ISLAMABAD – Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in a statementreleased on Monday slammed the relocation of Paraguay’s embassy from TelAviv to Holy Quds (Jerusalem).
The OIC statement described the relocation of Paraguay embassy to Jerusalemas a provocative measure and a clear violation of the UN resolutions.
Paraguay move is against the international rules and regulations, it added.
According to the Turkish Anadolu News Agency, Paraguay officially relocatedits embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday, becoming thethird country to do so after the US and Guatemala.
Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization’sExecutive Committee, condemned the move by Paraguay.
“This irresponsible action is a stark and deliberate violation ofinternational law and internationally legitimate [i.e., UN] resolutions,’Ashrawi said in a statement.
Urging Paraguay to reverse the decision, she called on member-states of theArab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-AlignedMovement to severe relations with those countries that support the Israelioccupation.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry likewise condemned the move by Paraguay,describing it as a “violation of international law”.
The US officially relocated its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalemlast week. Two days later, Guatemala followed suit.
The moves drew condemnation and protest from across the Arab and Muslimworld, especially in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.
