NEW DELHI – India successfully test fired under life extension program nearthe Odisha coast on Monday.
The supersonic cruise missile was tested from ITR in Odisha’s Balasore.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took to Twitter and congratulated theDefence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the successfultest.
“Smt @nsitharaman congratulates Team Brahmos & @DRDO_India for successfulflight test carried out at 1040 hrs on 21 May 2018 from ITR, Balasore tovalidate BRAHMOS missile life extension technologies developed for thefirst time in India,” the official Twitter account of Defence Ministry saidin a post.
The successful test will result in huge savings of replacement cost ofmissiles held in the inventory of Indian Armed Forces, the Defence Ministrysaid.
arlier in March, India successfully flight tested BrahMos from Pokhran testrange, Rajasthan.
The BrahMos missile has been jointly developed with Russia and is namedafter the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.
The supersonic cruise missile was tested for the first time from aSukhoi-30MKI jet in November.
