*ISLAMABAD: The sword of Damocles hangs over at least 200 political leadersas the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started preparing list ofthe leaders to be disqualified.*
Sources said hundreds of election candidates had failed to submit their taxreturns. The candidates have been issued a final notice for submission oftheir returns.
“Those who failed to submit their details will stand disqualified for thenext election,” they said.
The ECP has given deadline of April 22 for submission of returns on theirexpenditures; otherwise they would be fined Rs0.1 million.
On April 10, the ECP had disqualified a member of Balochistan Assembly,associated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), for possessing a fakedegree.
A three-member bench of the commission, headed by Chief ElectionCommissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza, gave this verdict.
Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Muhammad Khan had won election fromBalochistan Assembly constituency PB-4 Loralai.
He had defeated Maulvi Faiz Ullah of Muttahidda Majlis-i-Ammal Pakistan whostood second and independent candidate Shams Ud Din Wald Qamar Ud Din whograbbed third position.
