Pakistan and Australia are the favorites to qualify for next year’s WorldTest Championship final. The two sides have been the most consistent sidesin the current cycle and have a favorable schedule as compared to otherteams heading into the final.
Pakistan currently sits on the second spot with 61.11 percentage of pointsfrom 6 matches. Babar’s men still have eight more Test matches left in thecurrent cycle including the third and final Test match against Australia atGaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The Men in Green are scheduled to tour Sri Lankafor a two-match Test series next before hosting England and New Zealand fora three-match and a two-match Test series respectively.
Australia, on the other hand, sits at the top of the table with 71.42percentage of points. They have four more series to play after theconclusion of the ongoing Test match against Pakistan. They will tour SriLanka for a two-match Test series before a four-match series in India. Theywill wrap up the current cycle with a two-match Test series against WestIndies at home and a three-match series against South Africa.
Apart from Pakistan and Australia, last year’s finalists India and aresurgent South Africa are the other two genuine contenders for the covetedtop two spots. The Proteas have to tour England and Australia while theywill host Bangladesh and West Indies. India will host Australia while theywill tour Bangladesh in their remaining two series in the cycle.
Both Pakistan and Australia will be looking to give their all in the finalTest match to secure their position at the top of the WTC points table. Thefinal Test match can have serious repercussions on the chances of bothteams to qualify for the all-important final.
