ISLAMABAD – Dr Tahir Shamsi, the head of National Institute of BloodDiseases unveils a unique and interesting solution to treat the coronaviruspatients.
He said, “The body of a COVID-19 patient creates antibodies to fight offthe virus. These antibodies in the blood of a recovered patient could beused to boost the immunity of the newly infected people.”
According to the details, Top hematologist and transplant surgeon ofPakistan said that the blood of recovered patients of coronavirus– themysterious respiratory illness caused by the novel COVID-19 which could beused to slow the spread of the deadly contagion which has killed more than10,000 people and affected 254,801 others worldwide.
“We can save precious lives using this technique,” Dr Shamsi said whileadding that the National Institute of Blood Diseases is fully equipped tosuccessfully use this technique. “Doctors have saved hundreds of lives withthe help of this technique in China since February,” he added.
While talking to the newspaper he further said, “A vaccine works bytraining the immune system to recognise and combat pathogens – eitherviruses or bacteria – by creating antibodies in the blood. And when thepathogens enters the body, the antibodies already present in the bloodsuccessfully fight it off.”
Earlier on March 19, US President said, a drug currently used as anantimalarial, hydroxychloroquine would be made available almost immediatelyto treat coronavirus.
According to the details, Trump, speaking at a news conference, pointed toefforts on Gilead Sciences Inc’s experimental antiviral drug Remdesivir andthe generic antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, saying he had called onthe U.S. Food and Drug Administration to streamline its regulatory approvalprocess.
