WASHINGTON – US State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert on Wednesdaysaid that Pakistan has shown progress by taking action against terroristgroups but still a lot more was needed to be done.
Addressing a news briefing in Washington on Wednesday, she said that lastyear, the US administration had frozen Pakistan’s military assistance andlinked its release with an action against all terrorist groups includingHaqqani Network.
Heather Nauert said that the implementation on US President Donald Trump’snew strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia came under discussion during ameeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and US Vice PresidentMike Pence.
They also discussed the steps being taken against terrorism during themeeting, she added.
The spokeswoman said that the US Vice President had emphasized thatPakistan will have to do more to take action against all terrorist groups.
The spokesperson said Pakistan can play a critical role in bringing AfghanTaliban to the negotiation table.
