*ISLAMABAD:* Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar was arrestedafter he appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday.
Rejecting his protective bail, the three-judge bench, headed by the ChiefJustice Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, formed a five-member JIT team toprobe the allegations against him. The bench further ordered Anwar’s arrestsoon after his appearance.
The team will be headed by Additional Inspector-General (IG) Sindh AftabPathan. Other members will include Zulfiqar Larak, Dr Rizwan, Azad AhmedKhan and Wali Ullah.
Rao’s counsel requested the bench to include agency officials in the JITbut the court declined his plea. “We are constituting our own JIT,” saysthe CJP. The bench asked the team to work independently and without beinginfluenced from the SC proceedings or the media coverage.
The court also ordered the Inspector-General (IG) Allah Dino Khawaja toprotect Anwar during police custody, “it is your duty to protect him,” thecourt told Khawaja.
The bench further asked Naqeebullah’s family to not harm Anwar, and furtherordered his name to remain on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Anwar, seen wearing a surgical mask, reached court earlier today, in awhite car. Security was beefed up at court premises and police cordoned offthe entrance. The bench resumed the suo motu hearing of the case, anddisposed off the contempt notice against him.
