Pakistan Army called in Balochistan after an emergency alert issued by provincial government

QUETTA – Issuing an emergency alert on Thursday in Lasbela district inBalochistan after flash flooding, the provincial government has brought inPakistan Army for assistance.

The deputy commissioner of Lasbela has said that a rescue operation toevacuate around 200 families trapped in a village in Lasbela is inprogress, local media reported. The deputy commissioner added that thegovernment has sought assistance from the army.

He further said that four helicopters of Pakistan Army will help in therescue operation. The flash flooding has been caused by heavy rainfalls inthe area. Home Minister Ziaullah Longove, who visited affected areas, saidthat relief goods have been dispatched to the province.

Last week, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted widespreadrain-thunderstorm with few moderate to scattered heavy falls in Balochistan.
