*ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a petition in theSupreme Court of Pakistan, seeking disqualification of Pakistan People’sParty (PPP) chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, for concealing his assets.*
PTI leader and Senator Usman Dar filed the petition and requested in hisplea to disqualify Mr. Zardari under Article 62-1(F). The petition alsocontains details of assets reportedly concealed by the PPP leader in hiselection nomination papers. The PTI leader has also submited before thecourt tax receipts of Zardari’s New York apartments.
Earlier, it was being reported that PTI Sindh legislator Khurram Sher Zamanwill approach the Supreme Court, however the party decided to pursue thecase through Usman Dar.
Zaman had withdrawn his appeal from the Election Commission of Pakistan onJan 10, stating he had garnered key evidence against the PPP leader that hewould furnish before the top court.
The PTI lawmaker had moved the petition in the ECP accusing Zardari ofconcealing his assets. He alleged that the PPP leader owned an apartment inBelaire Condominiums located at 524 East 72nd Street in New York butdidn’t disclose it in his nomination papers for the 2018 general elections.
“Zardari under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan andRules of the Election Commission of Pakistan, as per past precedent, shouldbe disqualified from holding public office under Article 62 (1)(f), as inmy opinion he ceases to be truthful and sagacious.”
Another petition was moved against Zardari in the Peshawar High Courtseeking his disqualification.
