Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has dubbed India's all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the primary asset for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Speaking on the Indian sports channel Star Sports about India's prospects in the tournament, Akram emphasized that Pandya would play a pivotal role in India's pursuit of their third 50-over world title.
He stated, "Hardik Pandya is the linchpin for India in the upcoming World Cup, and India is among the top contenders for victory, especially given their home advantage and their demonstrated bowling prowess."
Wasim Akram's commendation of India's star all-rounder followed Pandya's remarkable performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final against co-hosts Sri Lanka. In that match, India dominated Dasun Shanaka's team, securing an eighth regional championship title with a comprehensive ten-wicket victory.
Pandya's standout contributions included the crucial dismissals of Dunith Wellalage, Pramod Madushan, and Matheesha Pathirana, which played a pivotal role in India restricting the co-hosts to just 50 runs
