ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) senior vice president Shahid Mazhar expressed his grief over the record reduction in cotton production and said that Pakistan will have to face loss of Rs. 160 billion due to low cotton production this year.
On the other hand, Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association Chairman Shahzad Ali and Haji Akram said that the record decline in cotton production is a national tragedy for Pakistan.
They demanded government to approve cotton seed act and breeder’s right act from Assembly. Shahid Mazhar complained that neither a local private institution nor any international association is ready to recognize Pakistan Cotton Standard Institute.
7 hundreds seed companies are working in Pakistan but they have no agricultural scientists. While talking to media he said that Cotton Grab Assessment Committee could not achieve its 10.8 million cotton bale production target in cotton season 2015-16.
He demanded government to take effective steps for the restoration of ginning factories.
