Former PM Nawaz Sharif caught lying to the nation yet again

ISLAMABAD - Deposed Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif was caught lying to the nation yet again.

He on Monday said that he used to pay the daily expenses of the PM House from his own pocket. However the federal budget and the government expenditure reciepts for the last five years show otherwise.

The incarcerated Sharif appeared before the accountability court for the hearing of the Al Azizia and Flagship corruption references. Speaking to the media, Sharif said that he paid the day-today expense of the PM house from his own pocket and had the cheques as proof, local media reported.

Sharif was referring to PM Imran Khan’s speech on Sunday in which he had listed down the expenses of the PM house during Sharif’s tenure. In his address PM Khan had revealed that the PM house has 524 servants and 80 cars, 33 bulletproof cars.

During today’s corruption hearing headed by Judge Arshad Malik, Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris pleaded the judge t to allow him to cross-examine the key witness Wajid Zia. The court accepted his request and summoned Zia on August 27.

Sharif has been accused in the two remaining corruption references-Al-Azizia and Flagship, filed by the National Accountability Bureau after the Panama Papers revelation. He is already convicted in the Avenfield reference and has been sentenced to 10 years in jail along with a fine of £8 million by accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir.
