ISLAMABAD: An 80-year old Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf has been once again been detained under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).
A Jamaat spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said the fresh PSA has been slapped on Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf after being kept under judicial custody for more than three months in Kupwara district jail, Kashmir Media Service reported.
A fake case was registered against him by Sopore police after his first detention under PSA was quashed by the High Court of the territory.
"The Sopore police instead of releasing him as per the court directions shifted him from Baramulla to Kupwara jail in another false case," the statement said.
Jamaat-e-Islami of the territory has vehemently denounced the inhuman attitude of Sopore police and impressed upon the release of Sheikh and other political detainees.
"Jamaat-e-Islami also demanded an unconditional release of all political prisoners including the youth who are languishing in jails and police stations on the allegations of stone-pelting during the protests," the statement added. (APP)
