Chief Minister of the Indian state of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai Tuesdaymade a plan to introduce a law to ban halal meat.
The controversy of banning halal meat started at the Ugadi festival. ManyHindu organizations including the Hindu Jagruti Samiti, Shri Ram Sena,Bajrang Dal took to the streets in Karnataka protesting and demanded not tobuy halal meat from Muslim shops.
The government of Karnataka has now prepared to bring a bill against Halalmeat in the state. Its proposal has been prepared. The CM and his rule islikely to introduce it in the House during the assembly session on Monday.
At the same time, the opposition has accused the BJP government of thestate of playing the Hindutva card before the elections. BJP’s MLARavikumar has demanded FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India)to ban things other than certified food items. Since the politicalatmosphere in the state is already hot regarding the hijab ban, now theopposition has got a new issue about the halal meat ban.
For the unversed, the controversy over halal meat started with the Ugadifestival. There was a demand by many political parties not to buy halalmeat from Muslim shops. Shops selling meat were also asked to remove Halalmeat from their display boards.
