Foreign Envoy Alarms UN Over TTP Sanctuary in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Denmark’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations,Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen, has expressed grave concern over thecontinuing presence of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) inAfghanistan and its escalating cross-border terrorist attacks againstPakistan.

Addressing the Security Council, Lassen revealed that approximately 6,000TTP militants are currently operating from Afghan territory, seriouslyundermining regional security and pushing the area towards furtherinstability.

The Danish envoy accused the Taliban administration of providing logisticalsupport and other assistance to the TTP, effectively turning Afghanistaninto a safe haven for terrorist organisations.

She highlighted that this support has directly contributed to multipledeadly attacks inside Pakistan, resulting in significant loss of precioushuman lives and posing a severe threat to peace in the entire region.

Lassen emphasised that the resurgence of terrorist groups under Talibanprotection not only endangers Pakistan but also jeopardises the stabilityof neighbouring countries and the broader South Asian region.

The ambassador’s statement echoes growing international anxiety aboutAfghanistan’s role as a hub for transnational terrorism since the Talibanreturned to power in August 2021.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the interim Afghan government to honour itsDoha Agreement commitments and prevent its soil from being used against anycountry.

Diplomatic sources indicate that several Council members share Denmark’sconcerns and may push for stronger measures to address the deterioratingsecurity situation along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
