The World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament was unveiled by the InternationalCricket Council (ICC) on Monday, and it was determined by a selection panelcomprising Ian Bishop, Kass Naidoo, Shane Watson, Wasim Khan, and SunilVaidya. The team selection was based on outstanding performances throughoutthe tournament.
The lineup featured players from various teams, including championsAustralia, runners-up India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.Notable players included Quinton de Kock from South Africa, whosebreathtaking form included scoring four centuries during the group stage,including a massive 174 against Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma, the captain and opener for India, played a pivotal role atthe top of the order, accumulating 597 runs. Virat Kohli, also from India,set an all-time record by scoring the most runs ever by an individualbatter in a Men’s Cricket World Cup, amassing 765 runs at an impressiveaverage of 96.62.
Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand contributed significantly to his team’s runto the semi-finals with 552 runs at an average of 69 and a strike rate of111.06. KL Rahul, another Indian batsman, showcased consistency throughoutthe tournament, accumulating 452 runs from 10 innings.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell provided standout moments with the bat, achievingthe fastest century ever seen at a Men’s Cricket World Cup, taking only 40balls. Ravindra Jadeja, India’s spin-bowling all-rounder, played a crucialrole by taking key wickets and maintaining pressure during the middle overs.
Jasprit Bumrah, the leader of India’s bowling attack, displayed relentlessexcellence. Dilshan Madushanka, Sri Lanka’s left-arm speedster, was arevelation, securing 21 wickets and consistently posing a threat with thenew ball.
Adam Zampa from Australia equaled Muttiah Muralidaran’s record for mostwickets by a spinner in a single Men’s Cricket World Cup. Mohammed Shami,India’s top wicket-taker in the tournament, delivered an extraordinaryperformance despite not being part of the team at the start of the campaign.
