PM Imran Khan takes important decisions over the Afghan Transit trade

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed Pakistan’s commitmentto facilitate transit trade of Afghanistan.

He said this while chairing a meeting to review issues related toPak-Afghan Transit Trade in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister directed to ensure that the arrangement is not misusedand does not hamper the growth of Pakistani industry.

Reiterating that the growth of industry and boosting exports are the keypriorities for the present government, Imran Khan underscored the need forstreamlining Pak-Afghan Transit Trade arrangement, in coordination withAfghan authorities, so as to create a mutually beneficial situation for thetwo countries and the region.

He also underlined the need for employing technology to preclude misuse ofthe arrangement by vested interests.

Imran Khan directed Ministry of Commerce to present a comprehensive plan,within three days, to ensure that a transparent corruption free arrangementcapable of serving the intended purpose is put in place.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the existing set-up under Pak-AfghanTransit Trade Agreement and various issues being encountered at operationallevel.
