Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has disclosed that he maintainsregular contact with the Director of the national men’s team, MickeyArthur. During an interview on Haarna Mana Hay, Amir did not divulge thedetails of his discussions with Arthur regarding his potential return fromretirement in international cricket.
However it seems that his fans might see him in the squad after the WorldCup. Amir expressed his strong bond with Arthur, both professionally andpersonally, mentioning their recent time together at Derbyshire County.
When questioned about whether Arthur had encouraged him to reconsider hisretirement, Amir responded with a brief “That is personal.” Amir’s lastappearance in a One Day International (ODI) for Pakistan dates back toOctober 2019 against Sri Lanka in Karachi. In 2020, he retired frominternational cricket due to disagreements with the team’s management atthe time.
Pakistan’s Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, clarified the conditions forAmir’s potential return to the national team. Inzamam emphasized thatdomestic cricket performance is a crucial factor for selection.
He noted that while Amir had retired from international cricket, the doorto the Pakistan cricket team remained open for him, provided he excelled infirst-class cricket. Inzamam made this statement while announcing the squadfor the ICC World Cup 2023.
Additionally, former captain Moin Khan praised Amir’s cricketing prowess,highlighting his strong performance in various leagues. Moin expressed theview that if there was a need for Amir and an opportunity for his comeback,he should certainly return to the national team, acknowledging Amir as botha great cricketer and a Pakistani.
