Pakistan to link Gwadar Port with International North South Transport Corridor

ISLAMABAD – Senate Chairman, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has proposed a liberalvisa regime and direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan topromote bilateral trade, investment and tourism.

In a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, he said that thepresent state of bilateral economic ties does not commensurate with thepotential and there is need to explore possibility of cooperation indiverse fields, said a press release received here .

Senate Chairman said that mutual support on the conflicts ofNagorno-Karabakh and Kashmir testifies to close understanding betweenIslamabad and Baku. He said that strong relationship between Azerbaijan andPakistan is visible from the frequency of high level interaction betweenthe two sides and the defence cooperation is strengthening steadily.

“We want our relationship to grow further by utilizing the potential”Sanjrani emphasized. He stressed that extension of North-South TransportCorridor to Gwadar Port would ensure the much needed connectivity and giveboost to trade links between the two countries. The Chairman Senate alsogreeted the Azeri President on the 100th anniversary of the Parliament ofAzerbaijan.

The Chairman Senate was accompanied by Senators Sardar Muhammad Azam KhanMusakhel, Muhammad Ayub Afridi and Nighat Mirza. President of Azerbaijanwhile welcoming the delegation said that Pakistan is an important countryand there is huge scope to further build on cooperation and strengthenlinkages. The President felicitated Sadiq Sanjrani on assuming the officeof Chairman Senate.

On the sidelines, the Chairman Senate held meetings with leaders, heads ofparliaments and delegates from Irish, UAE, Egypt, Korea and othercountries. He said that parliaments have to play a dynamic and effectiverole to promote peace in the Asian region for socio-economic prosperity.

He said that there is need to create conducive environment for trade andinvestment and explore the untapped potential. He said that Pakistansupports efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region. – APP
