NEW DELHI – India takes an important decision over the meeting of thePakistan and Indian foreign ministers on the sideline of the UN GeneralAssembly session.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said Indian ForeignMinister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi,will meet in New York this month.
Qureshi and Swaraj will meet on the sidelines of the United Nations GeneralAssembly (UNGA) in New York scheduled later this month, an Indian Ministryof External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson said.
“India has accepted the Pakistani prime minister’s suggestion,” thespokesperson added. “The meeting will take place on Pakistan’s request.”
The Indian MEA spokesperson said the decision was taken after PrimeMinister Imran Khan wrote a letter to Indian premier Narendra Modi.
PM Imran wrote a letter to Modi in response to his letter congratulatinghim for assuming office. According to the *Times of India*, Modi in hisletter written on August 20 had called for a “meaningful and constructive”engagement between the two countries.
