Two former PMs Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Yusuf Raza Gillani land in hot waters

ISLAMABAD:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday filed an appeal in theIslamabad High Court (IHC), challenging the acquittal of six accused,including two former prime ministers Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Syed YousafRaza Gilani, from chairman Ogra appointment reference.

The NAB prosecutor general filed the appeal with the approval of NABchairman. The appeal stated that former chairman of Oil and Gas RegulatoryAuthority (Ogra) Tauqeer Sadiq was appointed on July 22, 2009 in violationof the rules and procedure.

The accountability court had acquitted the accused under the NAB amendmentordinance on March 17. However, the NAB said that the reference was filedbefore the promulgation of the amendment ordinance, therefore, it could notbe applied to the references filed before the amendments.
