TEHRAN – Since the arrival of the Trump administration, Washington has beentaking a harsh approach towards Iran in its foreign policy. The US notablywithdrew from the Iran nuclear deal on 8 May 2018 and imposed heftysanctions against Tehran’s oil, banking and shipping sectors in November ofthe same year.
The head of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry’s Mahmoud Alavi announced onFriday that his ministry has managed to deal a heavy blow to the CIA’s spynetwork, operating both within Iran and the region, Mehr News Agencyreported.
He reportedly said that dozens of spies, working in the state’s sensitivesectors, have been arrested as a result of the ministry’s work.
“In a complicated process against the US Central Intelligence Agency, 290spies from its espionage network in different countries, including Iranwere identified”, he said.
Alavi further noted that a similar measure had been taken regardingBritain’s MI6, promising to release more details about operations againstboth foreign intelligence agencies later. He also said that the info aboutthe spy networks will be forwarded to friendly states interested in it.
Neither Washington nor London have commented on the report yet.
