ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed for hearingthe disqualification plea against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) SenatorYousaf Raza Gillani.
The Election Commission will hear the petition on March 22. In this regard,the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has constituted a five-member benchunder himself.
The petition has been filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadersFarrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, seeking disqualification of newly-electedSenator Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani over the leaked video of Ali HaiderGillani.
The petition states that it is clear in the video that Ali Haider Gilani,an MPA from Multan, was telling other members how to waste their votes inorder to benefit his father Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.
It further states that after the video went viral, Ali Haider Gillanihimself appeared before the media and admitted that he tried to influencethe Senate election. Therefore, the Election Commission is appealed to takeaction against Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son under Section 174 of theElection Act 2017.
