Over 100 bureaucrats and top politicians seek relief under new amended NAB Ordinance 2019 by PTI government

ISLAMABAD: Over 100 bureaucrats and top politicians seek relief under newamended National Accountability Bureau Ordinance by PTI government.

Around 100 suspects have sought relief under the National AccountabilityBureau (NAB) Amendment Ordinance 2019. A number key politicians and formerbureaucrats have sought disposal of corruption cases against them inpetitions filed in courts.

President Arif Alvi on Dec 27 last year, promulgated the NAB (amendment)Ordinance 2019.

According to the official document, so far only three people have becomesuccessful in getting relief from courts under the new NAB law, includingformer president of Sindh Bank Bilal Sheikh.

Several prominent political figurres including former prime ministerPervaiz Ashraf who has filed petitions for acquittal in six accountabilityreferences.

Moreover, 15 co-accused in Rental Power case, have filed petitions foracquittal.

Moreover, former federal minister Akram Khan Durrani, former provincialminister Sharjeel Inam Memon, former chief minister of Sindh Liaquat AliJatoi have filed petitions for acquittal in courts.

Key accused in fake bank accounts case and money laundering case, AbdulGhani Majeed, Minahil Majeed and Matanat Ali have also filed petitions fortheir acquittal in the case.

According to sources, the NAB legal team was engaged in preparation of thebureau’s reply to the acquittal petitions and their future line of actionto counter their move.
