KARACHI – Pakistan has achieved a milestone to perform a successful roboticsurgical procedure, performed on a female patient in Karachi.
The OT Complex Civil Hospital Karachi and the Sindh Institute of Urologyand Transplantation (SIUT) witnessed Pakistan’s first robotic surgery onthe concluding day of the three-day international multidisciplinary roboticsurgery workshop.
The procedure, called hysterectomy, was performed on a woman withintractable bleeding acquiring multiple transfusions. The uterus of the55-year-old patient, hailing from Balochistan, was removed. She will bedischarged after 24 hours.
Prof Shamim Khan of the King’s College London and Dr Kankipati Shanti Rajufrom Guys and St Thomas Hospitals London performed the robotic surgeryprocedure along with a team of support staff.
