Pakistan and Russia have reached a consensus on the necessity of comprehensive strategies to address challenges related to radicalisation, the proliferation of terrorist ideologies, and the misuse of information and communication technologies for terrorist activities.

This agreement was established during the tenth meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorism and Other Challenges to Security in Islamabad on November 16, as reported by the Foreign Office.

Chaired by Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, additional foreign secretary, and Ambassador Sergey Vershinin, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, the meeting delved into extensive discussions on global and regional terrorist threats.

Special attention was given to the situations in Afghanistan, Central and South Asia, and North Africa, emphasizing the intricacies of the terrorism landscape and the imperative for sustained vigilance.

The two sides elaborated on their respective national strategies and measures for combatting terrorism, exchanging experiences and practices to underscore the significance of individual efforts in the broader fight against terrorism.

The meeting, a routine component of Pakistan-Russia bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation, resulted in an agreement to reinforce collaborative efforts in effectively countering terrorism, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such cooperation.

A significant aspect of the discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The Foreign Office noted that these deliberations were particularly fruitful, highlighting the commitment of both nations to working together in combatting the financing of terrorism and other critical areas of counter-terrorism.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to sustain their cooperation in the fight against terrorism, recognizing the importance of their partnership in upholding regional and global security.
