ISLAMABAD: (APP) The strength of registered and professional engineers with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has reached to 2,065,90 till June 2016.
The number of professional engineer was now 8,9927 and registered engineers were 1,166,63 with PEC, read a document issued by PEC here on Tuesday.
As many as 1,2809 engineers were registered in 2013, 1,4238 in 2014, 2,0667 in 2015 and 8,444 so far in 2016.
The document stated that a total of 2,071 engineers were registered since 1976 in sector of Aeronautical, 4,301 Agriculture Engineers, 508 Arch Engg, 163 Automotive, 1056 Biomedical, 1,3965 Chemical, 4,0516 Civil, 1,2882 Computer, 5,2921 Electrical, 2,3158 Electronics, Energy 1, 123 Engineering Science, 612 Environment, 24 Geoinformatic, 315 Geology, 2,964 Industrial, 3,1569 Mechanical, 2,097 Mechatronics, 4,066 Metallurgy, 1685 Mining, 5 Nuclear, 2127
Petrogas, 380 Poly, 6,308 Tele Communication, 2,318 Textile, 242 Urban and 224 Transport engineers had been registered.
To facilitate the engineers, PEC had announced that fee for renewal of PEC membership would be charged on concessional rates of Rs. 2000/- only for life subscription (including all arrears) for all such registered and professional engineers who couldn't get their registration renewed till date. The facility was valid upto December 31, 2016.
The PEC has registered 1,755 consulting engineers, 7,6251 constructors and 840 operators up to June, 2016. The PEC had allowed renewal of all such constructors, operating and consulting engineers without charging fine.
The council had also decided to grant free of cost "Supervisory Certificates" to the young engineers and fresh graduates (last three years), to supervise quality of engineering works. As many as 5,000 such certificates were issued to young engineers in last month.
For the professional growth and skill development of engineers in the country, PEC had implemented a comprehensive framework of "Continuing Professional Development" under CPD bylaws 2008 to develop competence and ability of engineers leading toward international competitiveness and job opportunities.
Nation-wide short courses, seminars and trainings were organized besides encouraging Professional Engineering Bodies (PEBs) and establishing professional development academies as various engineering universities and PEBs.
The document further said that PEC had registered 123 PCBs for imparting CPD activities for the professional growth and skill development of engineers.
