STFP launches pro environment drive in hilly areas

ISLAMABAD (APP): Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan (STFP) has launched a cleanliness drive in various hilly areas of Naran, Kaghan, Shogran and Swat to raise awareness among tourists.

Talking to APP Rana Aftab President of Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan (STFP) said, STFP had stepped up its cleanliness campaign to combat the plastic menace.

He said the beauty of places such as Saiful Muluk, Shogran, Mansehra, Swat, Naran Kaghan were being polluted by irresponsible tourists.

"Pollution is affecting the environment of hill stations as tourists left trash in streams." Prof Rabia Qadir said.

As the season is on its peak, the district administration and the Department of Tourism are evolving ways to promote responsible tourism.

"Majority of them leave behind discarded plates, cups and packets, apart from the leftovers, escalating environmental problems," a housewife Sana Khan said.

Boards erected at prominent places are appealing to the visitors to protect the environment.

"If the visitors do not cooperate, the authorities concerned should evolve other ways to ensure that they obey the rules."
