ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Wednesday reviewed overallperformance of its regional bureaus and evaluated the status of ongoingcorruption cases falling within their jurisdiction.
The meeting, chaired by NAB Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal, was held toexamine performance of its regional bureaus, a press release said. The headof anti-graft watchdog reviewed progress on the ongoing inquiries,complaint verification and investigations especially the progress on 179mega corruption cases.
The meeting was informed that 105 corruption references were being heard byvarious accountability courts. Out of 179 corruption cases, over 105 caseswere filed in various accountability courts.
The meeting was also apprised that inquiries of 15 cases, investigations of19 cases were in process while 40 cases had already been disposed of.
On this occasion, NAB chairman said logical conclusion of corruptionrelated cases was a priority of the bureau and directed to transfer lowmagnitude cases to other anti corruption departments. Last year, the NABhad apprehended 503 persons and filed 440 corruption references indifferent accountability courts, he said and added that it had notconcluded such number of cases in the past.
The meeting was informed that 1,202 corruption references worth Rs. 900billion were at various stages of hearing in different accountabilitycourts. Without any discrimination, the NAB had approved to conduct 1,713complaint verification, 877 inquiries and 227 investigations in last oneyear.
Employing scientific time-frame for conclusion of cases, the NAB had fixedten month period to conclude corruption cases which was unprecedented.
A forensic laboratory had also been established in federal capital tocollect evidence with the help of fingerprints, mobile data and documentverification in corruption cases.
The NAB chairman said the anti-graft watchdog was pursuing the policy ofAccountability for All, as elimination of corruption was its primeresponsibility of NAB and sincere efforts were being making to eradicatecorruption from the country.
