In a first, US spacial Rep. Zalmay Khalilzad breaks silence over peace talks with Afghan Taliban

ISLAMABAD – The US Special Representative for Afghanistan ReconciliationZalmay Khalilzad has responded over the crucial peace talks with AfghanTaliban.

He said he had productive meetings in UAE with Afghan and internationalpartners to promote intra-Afghan dialogue towards ending the conflict inAfghanistan.

Khalilzad said in a tweet that he is grateful to UAE for hosting the talks.

“Had productive mtgs in UAE w Afghan & intl partners to promoteintra-Afghan dialogue towards ending the conflict in #Afghanistan. Gratefulto UAE for hosting talks & their commitment to founder’s legacy as Year ofZayed ends & Year of Tolerance begins,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

The United Arab Emirates hosted the US-Taliban reconciliation talks in AbuDhabi, with the participation of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

The two-day Afghan reconciliation conference fructified in tangible resultsthat are positive for all parties concerned.

According to Emirates News Agency, another round of talks will be held inAbu Dhabi to complete the Afghanistan reconciliation process.
