Commander Islamic Military Alliance Raheel Sharif rejects notion of IMCTC against any country or sect

ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistani army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif onceagain has reiterated stance that Islamic Military Alliance is not againstany country and sect.

He is the commander general of a Saudi Arabia-led multi-nation IslamicMilitary Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC).

Former Army Chief has assured Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani that themilitary alliance was not aimed at any country, nation or sect.

He said this while briefing the Senate chairman, who is on an officialvisit to Saudi Arabia, on performance and objectives behind formation ofthe military alliance. Gen (retd) Raheel Sharif’s deputy General AbdulRehman was also present on the occasion.

The former army chief said the basic objective of IMCTC was to fightagainst the menace of terrorism until its eradication. He also dismissedthe notion that the military coalition was aimed against any particularcountry, nation or sect without any mentions.

However, Iran and Saudi Arabia are regional rivals and have supportedopposing sides in the conflicts in Syria and Yemen and different politicalfactions in Iraq and Lebanon.

The Senate chairman and other senators in the Pakistani delegationappreciated Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his government’s resolveand efforts made towards eradicating terrorism.

Saudi Arabia had acquired the services of Gen (retd) Raheel as head of theIMCTC cobbled together in December 2015.
