Pakistan and Russia have reached a consensus on the necessity ofcomprehensive strategies to address challenges related to radicalisation,the proliferation of terrorist ideologies, and the misuse of informationand communication technologies for terrorist activities.
This agreement was established during the tenth meeting of thePakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorismand Other Challenges to Security in Islamabad on November 16, as reportedby the Foreign Office.
Chaired by Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, additional foreign secretary, andAmbassador Sergey Vershinin, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, themeeting delved into extensive discussions on global and regional terroristthreats.
Special attention was given to the situations in Afghanistan, Central andSouth Asia, and North Africa, emphasizing the intricacies of the terrorismlandscape and the imperative for sustained vigilance.
The two sides elaborated on their respective national strategies andmeasures for combatting terrorism, exchanging experiences and practices tounderscore the significance of individual efforts in the broader fightagainst terrorism.
The meeting, a routine component of Pakistan-Russia bilateralcounter-terrorism cooperation, resulted in an agreement to reinforcecollaborative efforts in effectively countering terrorism, emphasizing themutual benefits of such cooperation.
A significant aspect of the discussions revolved around enhancingcooperation in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and theShanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The Foreign Office noted thatthese deliberations were particularly fruitful, highlighting the commitmentof both nations to working together in combatting the financing ofterrorism and other critical areas of counter-terrorism.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to sustain their cooperationin the fight against terrorism, recognizing the importance of theirpartnership in upholding regional and global security.
