Expressing his disappointment, Riaz pointed out that despite Shadab Khanand Mohammad Nawaz delivering below-par performances, the team managementdid not explore alternative options, hinting at possible replacement forboth of them.
The suboptimal showing of the national men’s cricket team in the World Cup2023 prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to implement significantchanges, including the appointment of new captains for the Test and T20Iformats.
With five losses, the most in their World Cup history, including defeatsagainst Afghanistan and South Africa, Pakistan finished fifth in thestandings with eight points. This led to Babar Azam stepping down as theall-format captain, as the team failed to qualify for the semifinals.
