Pakistan sponsored resolution in UN unanimously passed

At the United Nations, a Pakistan sponsored resolution reaffirming theright to self-determination for peoples who are subjected to colonial,foreign and alien occupation, has been unanimously adopted.

The resolution, submitted by Pakistan and co-sponsored by 73 countries, wasadopted without a vote in the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, whichdeals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues.

The resolution, which Pakistan has been sponsoring since 1981, serves tofocus the world’s attention on the peoples still struggling for theirinalienable right to self-determination, including those in Kashmir andPalestine.

It is expected to come up for the UN General Assembly’s endorsement nextmonth.

Introducing the draft, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, MunirAkram, said international community is obligated to ensure the right ofself-determination for all peoples living under subjugation, aliendomination and foreign occupation.
