CDWP approved and recommended 13 projects worth Rs 226 billions

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approvedeight projects worth Rs31.6 billion and recommended five projects worthRs195.1 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council(ECNEC) for consideration.

The CDWP meeting was presided over by Planning Commission Deputy ChairmanMohammad Jehanzeb Khan.

According to details, projects related to devolution & area development,education, energy, governance, health industries & commerce, food &agriculture and physical planning & housing were presented during themeeting.

A project related to devolution & area development titled ‘Southern PunjabPoverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP), worth Rs15,524.58 million, wasreferred to ECNEC. The project was aimed at reducing poverty in thesouthern Punjab region through agriculture productivity, livelihoodopportunities, community infrastructure and vocational training.

Two projects related to education were presented in the meeting;‘Establishment & Operation of Basic Education Community Schools’, worthRs5,194.558 million, and ‘Improving Human Development Indicators inPakistan with focus on MDGS related to education and six EFA Goals’, worthRs3,306.024 million. The projects were approved with a direction thatBalochistan would not come up for any further revision.

Four projects related to energy were presented in the meeting. The approvedprojects included ‘500kV Chakwal Substation’, worth Rs8,956.39 million, and‘Hydropower & Renewable Energy-II, Gilgit Baltistan(KFW)’, worthRs2,260.194 million.

On the other hand, two projects titled ‘Tarbela 4th Extension HydropowerProject’, worth Rs12,297 million, and ‘Evacuation of Power for Wind PowerProject at Jhampir and Gharo’, worth Rs13,405 million, were recommended toECNEC for approval.
