China hits back hard against US

BEIJING – Certain countries should stop finger-wagging at other countriesbut to match words with deeds, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson HuaChunying said on Sunday when commenting on US Vice President Mike Pence’srecent remarks of China.

A spokesperson statement quoted Pence as saying, during the Asia PacificEconomic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ meeting held in Papua NewGuinea, that China’s aid to Pacific Island countries saddled them withloans they could not afford.

“We suggest a certain country matches its words with its deeds, rather thanwag the finger at others,” Hua said in the statement. “The country shouldtreat all countries on an equal footing no matter big or small, respectother countries’ right of following a development path that accords withtheir own national conditions and make real contributions to developingcountries.”

Hua cited President Xi Jinping’s speeches during the APEC meeting, whichstressed both international and regional cooperation should adhere to theprinciple of openness, development, inclusiveness and innovation, as wellas rules-based approach, to cope with common challenge and achieve mutualbenefits.

As the APEC has entered a critical stage of development, the Chinese sidebelieves that all parties should demonstrate a responsible and constructiveattitude, and calls for negotiation under the rules made collectively whenencountering differences, rather than setting barriers, according to Hua.

She said China had conducted sound cooperation with many countries, including mutually beneficial cooperation with developing countries underthe framework of South-South cooperation.

“Upholding justice while pursuing shared interests and the principle ofsincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith, China has contributed tothe social and economic development of these countries within itscapability,” she said, adding that this kind of assistance, with nopolitical conditions attached, had fully respected the willingness of therecipient countries and their people.

“There is not a single country getting into debt crisis due to itscooperation with China. On the contrary, they have all improved thecapacity of independent development and people’s livelihood so thecooperation with China is widely welcomed by vast developing countries andtheir people.

“The international community has a fair opinion on the cooperation betweenChina and other developing countries,” she said. – Xinhua
