Lahore: In a move against sugar mafia, the Anti-Corruption Punjab hassummoned 44 sugar mill owners along with their records from across Punjab.
According to details, Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Gohar Nafeessaid in a statement that the exploitation of farmers is not acceptable atall.
“A large number of complaints are being received against mill owners fromacross the province. The anti-corruption department has received 2507complaints against sugar mill owners in the last two weeks,” he said.
The DG further stated that his department received 1363 complaintsregarding purchase of sugar by farmers against the rate fixed by thegovernment.
“We have also received 641 complaints from the farmers regardingnon-payment of dues. Meanwhile, 503 complaints were received regardingillegal cutting of sugarcane by mill owners,” he added.
The DG Anti-Corruption further said that the anti-corruption department isgoing to organize open courts for the convenience of sugarcane farmers.
“Anti-corruption will address all complaints of farmers,” Gohar Nafeesreaffirmed.
