NEW DELHI – Indian captain Virat Kohli equaled Shahid Afridi’s T20 recordfor most Man of the Match awards after scoring 72 not-out against SouthAfrica in Mohali.
Kohli smashed three sixes and four boundaries to garner his 11th Man of theMatch award to equal Shahid Afridi’s record at the number two spot. Thenumber one spot is held by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, who has 12 Man ofthe Match awards.
In the same performance, Kohli broke Rohit Sharma’s record for most runsscored in T20. The Indian skipper now has 2441 runs from 71 matches, takinghis T20 average past 50.
Kohli broke another Rohit record when he posted his 22nd half century onthe board, surpassing his team mates’ 21 fifties.
And finally, the master batsman took his average above 50 for all threeformats of the game, becoming the first batsman to ever do so.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi congratulated Kohli on hisachievement on twitter in a message where Boom Boom Afridi called Kohli “agreat player.”
