CPEC: A Good News from Gwadar over new development

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Government has given the green signal to start a300-megawatt (MW) power project in Gwadar under the China-Pakistan EconomicCorridor (CPEC).

The work on the project will start in October this year with an estimatedcost of $540 million, after delays due to conflicts over tariff rates.

The government has also decided to form a special appellate tribunal tosettle the tariff issue, Express reportedlink. The announcement was made afterCabinet Committee for CPEC’s meeting earlier this week.

According to CPEC’s official website, the project’s progress is listedbelow:

– LOI issued on 26th May 2017 – Site finalized by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) – Land lease agreement signed by the government of Balochistan – NOC issued by Balochistan Environment Protection Agency (BEPA) on 7th July 2018 – NEPRA’s tariff determination is in process.
