Pakistan Army Chief received unprecedented protocol in China: Sources

BEIJING – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa receivedspecial protocol in China as he has become a rare Army Chief to meet theChinese President.

He called on Chinese President Xi Jinping on special invitation onWednesday.

According to a press release issued by the ISPR, both discussed regionalsecurity environment, challenges and way forward.

The Chinese president said: “Pakistan is our time tested iron friend andPakistan Army has a pivotal role towards this lasting relationship.”

He appreciated professionalism of Pakistan armed forces and acknowledgedits role towards regional peace and stability. He said that China willcontinue to support Pakistan as a strategic partner.

“Those who oppose Belt and Road Initiative (SRI) or China Pakistan EconomicCorridor (CPEC) will never succeed as this is an initiative of peace anddevelopment not only for China but for region and beyond,” the Chinesepresident observed.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked the Chinese president for hisinvitation. He also thanked the President for acknowledging professionalismand contributions of Pak Army towards regional peace and stability.

The COAS said that Pakistan understands the importance of peace and hasgiven lot of sacrifices for achieving it. He said that SRI with CPEC as itsflagship is destined to succeed despite all odds and Pak Army shall ensuresecurity of CPEC at all costs.

COAS Gen Qamar Bajwa said: “While we work for peace, we need to stay strongto thwart designs of all inimical forces challenging our resolve. Wegreatly value Chinese support in this regard.”
