*ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi reveals reasons forExtension in Army Chief tenure for three years.*
Qureshi said the prime minister granted the army chief an extension keepingin view the security situation in the region, including Kashmir and theongoing peace process in Afghanistan.
*Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Monday that the primeminister used his constitutional right to grant an extension to Army ChiefGeneral Qamar Javed Bajwa after carefully considering the regional securitysituation.*
PM Imran Khan earlier on Monday gave a three-year extension to the armychief.
“General Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed chief of army staff for anotherterm of three years from the date of completion of current tenure,” read aletter signed by the prime minister.
The decision has been taken in view of the regional security environment,it said.
General Bajwa took over the command of the Pakistan Army on November 29,2016. He was to retire in November this year.
