*KARACHI – The Pakistan Navy held a beach cleanup drive at Karachi’sSeaview Beach on Sunday morning.*

Naval officers, personnel and students of Bahria College took part in thedrive. They picked up plastic bottles, plastic bags and other garbage thatlittered the beach.

Some sports celebrities also attended the event, as did members of civilsociety.

Karachi Commander Rear Admiral Asif Khaliq said marine ecology isthreatened by this pollution. We must keep our surroundings clean andensure that our beach is not littered, especially by plastic, he urged. Healso said that people must plant more trees.

After his speech, he planted a sapling at the Nishan-e-Pakistan Park.
