ISLAMABAD – The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has published thelist of highest recorded temperatures in the past 76 years.
Mitribah, Kuwait tops the list with 53.9 degrees Celsius, which itwitnessed on July 21, 2016. Mercury hit an all-time high in Turbat,Pakistan with a reading of 53.7 degrees Celcius on May 28, 2017.The temperature in Mitribah, Kuwait, is now accepted by the WMO as thehighest ever recorded for the continental region of Asia.
The two readings have been officially confirmed as the 3rd and 4thhighest WMO-recognised temperature extremes, according to a statementreleased by the watchdog.
Below are the highest ever recorded temperatures on Earth:
1. Furnace Creek, Death Valley, California – 56.7 degrees in 1913 2. Kebili, Tunisia – 55 degrees on July 7, 1931
However, extreme weather experts have serious concerns regarding thevalidity of these readings as some have termed these to have ‘seriouscredibility issues’.
