ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan will tour Saudi Arabia on a two-dayvisit on May 30 to attend a meeting of the Organisation of IslamicCooperation (OIC).
The premier will also meet the Saudi Arabian leaders and other OIC leaders.
PM Khan will also address the session of OIC on May 31; he will also meetKing Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman during his official visit.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also arrive in Saudi Arabia onMay 27 to attend a meeting of the OIC foreign ministers; he is currently inSaudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has called for urgent meetings of the regional GulfCooperation Council and the Arab League for discussions on the tensions inthe region, the kingdom’s official news agency said on Saturday.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said King Salman had invited Gulf leaders andArab states to two emergency summits in Makkah on May 30 to discuss recent“aggressions and their consequences” in the region.
Tensions have increased in the Gulf as the United States deployed anaircraft carrier and bombers there over alleged threats from Iran.
Saudi foreign affairs minister Adel al-Jubeir said his country does notwant to go to war with Iran, but was ready to defend its interests in astatement that has worried the Muslim world.
