NEW DELHI – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged thepeople of his country to put themselves for a ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sundayfrom 7am to 9pm in wake of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, whichhas also affected India.
According to the details in a special address to the nation, Modi said:“Today I am requesting the people of the country for a Janata curfew, onMarch 22, this Sunday, from between 7am to 9pm.
He urged people to follow this curfew, not go out on the streets or evengather in their societies and stay inside their homes.
The sources said, Indian Prime Minister further urged people above the ageof 60 should avoid going out in the coming weeks.
Earlier on March 17, India’s popular monument Taj Mahal has been closed toavoid the spread of contagious coronavirus.
Taj Mahal is a popular and ancient site that attracts tourists from aroundthe world. Over 70,000 people visit the place each day.
The cultural ministry informed that many people visit the “monument oflove” each day and it was “imperative to shut it down”.
Note that 3 people have died from the virus in India whereas 114 people areinfected so far.
