ISLAMABAD – Top foreign power hatching conspiracy against Pakistan lifelineproject Diamer Bhasha Dam, it has been revealed.
Chairman WAPDA Lieutenant General (Retd) Muzammil Hussain has revealedthat the United States (US), United States Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID) and World Bank are against Diamer Bhasha Dam and the USis supporting India over the said issue.
The chairman WAPDA was speaking during the meeting of the National AssemblyStanding Committee on Water Resources held in Parliament House on Tuesdaywith Chairman Nawab Yousaf Talpur in chair.
The meeting was attended by officials of Ministry of Water Resources andother relevant departments.
Lt. Gen. (Retd) Muzammil Hussain alleged that foreign powers were involvedin agitating the sentiments of local people for opposing the Diamer BhashaDam project.
Briefing the committing, he said that it takes 26 months in approval of onePC1 and two PC1 can be approved in five years but there were no money inthe country for approval of the said projects.
The Chairman WAPDA expressed concerns over the development system of thecountry and said that it was limited to briefings only.
He said that the WAPDA included 2487 Megawatt (MW) low electricity in thesystem during the last two years while hydropower generation has exceeded9000MW.
Lt. Gen. (Retd) Muzammil Hussain further stated that Tarbela 4th ExtensionHydropower Project has been completed which would help to generate anadditional income of 15 billion rupees.
The project earlier estimated to be completed at cost of Rs84 billion wasaccomplished at cost of Rs500 billion due to prolonged delay as it wasearlier projected to be completed in 2014, he added.
